About the Brand

About

Ayurvedist makes functional longevity teas built on Ayurvedic botanicals. Four blends, each formulated for a specific outcome: focus, clarity, immunity, and gut health. Caffeine-free, sugar-free, no "natural flavors," no fillers, and packed in plastic-free Soilon sachets rather than the plastic-based bags used across most of the category.

The tea aisle sells flavor. The wellness aisle sells function. Ayurvedist sits between them. Shoppers already spend deliberately on digestive health, stress, energy, and mental clarity in supplement form. Ayurvedist delivers that same intent in a format people already drink daily, using herbs most shelves don't carry: Ashwagandha, Triphala, Shatavari, Blue Pea Flower, Tulsi.

Launched in 2025, the brand is now in 70+ doors across 14 states, including Bi-Rite, Rainbow Grocery Co-op, and Happier Grocery. Nearly 80% of stockists reorder, and Ayurvedist consistently ranks in the top 5-10% of most-reordered coffee and tea brands on Faire. The company is founder-funded, woman-owned, and gives a portion of proceeds to girls' education in India.

Founding Story

Deepika grew up inside Ayurveda, not around it. Twenty-three years in India, much of it alongside her grandfather, a respected Ayurvedic practitioner who taught her that herbs work through routine, not intervention. At home it was never called wellness. It was just how the day was built: warm meals, herbal infusions, small repeated rituals.

That fell away in the U.S. Years of stress, travel, and long hours left her with gut problems, flat energy, and broken sleep. Doctors treated symptoms. Nothing held. It took a trip back to India for the fix to become obvious. Within weeks of returning to the rhythms she was raised on, her digestion and energy came back. Ayurveda works when it is simple and repeated, not when it becomes a protocol.

She came back looking for teas that could carry those rituals into a U.S. weekday. Everything was diluted, over-flavored, or borrowing the language of Ayurveda without the substance. So she built the alternative. Ayurvedist launched in 2025 with four blends developed alongside Ayurvedic practitioners, using herbs chosen for how the body ages and adapts, made clean enough and simple enough to drink every single day. Longevity, made practical.

At a Glance

  • Longevity-First Formulation

Most functional teas are built around a mood or a moment. Every Ayurvedist blend is formulated for how the body ages and adapts, using botanicals traditionally used in Ayurveda for long-term vitality. Longevity is one of the fastest-growing areas in wellness and still largely unaddressed on the tea shelf.

  • Formulated With Ayurvedic Practitioners

Blends were developed in collaboration with Ayurvedic practitioners, not adapted from existing herbal recipes or built backwards from a flavor profile. The founder grew up in the tradition, learning from her grandfather, a respected Ayurvedic practitioner in India.

  • Next-Wave Botanicals

Shatavari, Triphala, Blue Pea Flower and Tulsi sit alongside high-demand herbs like Ashwagandha and turmeric. These are ingredients most shoppers currently encounter in the supplement aisle, not the tea aisle.

  • Plastic-Free Tea Bags

Soilon sachets are plant-based and biodegradable, in a category where the majority of conventional tea bags still contain plastic. Fully recyclable cartons, no synthetics.

  • Clean Label, No Shortcuts

No caffeine, no sugar, no "natural flavors," no extracts or fillers. Herbs are organically grown, with USDA organic certification in progress. Whole botanicals only.

  • Traceable Sourcing and Manufacturing

Herbs sourced from growers across India, Sri Lanka, Egypt and South Africa. Blended in Sri Lanka at an FSSC 22000-certified facility, with final packing in Union City, California.

  • Built to Give Back

A portion of every purchase funds girls' education in India.

  • Deepika Phakke is the founder of Ayurvedist, a functional longevity tea brand built on Ayurvedic botanicals. She was the first in her family educated in English and joined Google India at 19, moving to San Francisco in 2015 and spending over a decade at the company across account strategy, partnerships and Google Ads leadership.

She left in 2022 to found Nama Water, a sustainability-led water brand born from organizing zero-waste events at Google and confronting how much single-use plastic the beverage industry runs on. Building it cost her. Long COVID, burnout and a broken gut sent her back to what she grew up on in India: her grandfather was a respected Ayurvedic practitioner, and 23 years of warm meals, herbal infusions and daily routine were never labeled wellness. They just worked. Ayurvedist launched in 2025 to bring those rituals into a format that survives a U.S. weekday.

She now runs both brands: Ayurvedist in 70+ doors across 14 states, and Nama Water in 300+ locations. She is also an angel investor and a speaker on sustainability and founder-led growth.
