About
MASAMI is clean premium haircare infused with a Japanese ocean botanical called Mekabu for weightless hydration. MASAMI is salon quality, high performing shampoo, conditioner, shine serum and styling cream without sulfates, parabens or phthalates. MASAMI is vegan, cruelty free, gender neutral and works for virtually every hair type and texture (everyone needs hydration!).
The MASAMI Institute was created to give a portion of MASAMI's proceeds back to help fund ocean education and research in northeastern Japan, where we get our hero ingredient. We are carbon and plastic neutral and Green Business Bureau platinum certified.
Founding Story
Their story began with the belief that you don't need to trade off clean beauty for haircare that performs. In 2010, James Hammett decided to use his extensive haircare knowledge, experience and talent to help models frustrated by the damage continuously done to their hair with no real solutions in sight. This was the beginning of breakthrough formulations of botanically hydrating brand MASAMI with powerful Mekabu powder. James and Lynn met serendipitously in 2018 and decided to launch MASAMI together to help women and men around the world to become confident with who they are, and to highlight their uniqueness by having healthy and invincibly beautiful hair.

Lynn Power spent much of her 30 year career running and transforming agency brands. Lynn has expertise in transforming organizations from top to bottom – including capabilities, organizational structure, talent and culture. She recently left the big agency world to launch two brands: MASAMI, a premium clean haircare brand which launched in February 2020 and Isle de Nature, bee-powered home fragrance which launched in September 2020.
Prior to her entrepreneurial move, Lynn was CEO of J. Walter Thompson NY, responsible for the flagship office of WPP’s $1.5B iconic agency (the oldest advertising agency in the world).
Throughout her career, Lynn has had the great fortune of working on some of the world’s most well-known brands including: LISTERINE, American Express, Clinique, Hershey’s, Pizza Hut and Wild Turkey.
Lynn believes that business success relies on building a team that respects and nurtures ideas as well as the people who create them. She believes in moving at the speed of culture, eliminating barriers and helping women find their voices.

James, with his impressive 25+ years career, is a beauty maven (guru) who is obsessed by achieving absolute perfection. His journey of gaining spectacular beauty knowledge started in London when he took an internship at Harvey Nichols. Later on, while in his role as Creative Services Head at Clairol, he was responsible for the creative execution and production of several major launches, including Natural Instincts, Nice & Easy, Matrix Biolage and SoColor brands and at L'Oreal USA for Redken, Lancome, SoftSheen-Carson Dark & Lovely and REVLON. In 2010, James decided to use his knowledge, experience and talent to help models frustrated by the damage continuously done to their hair with no real solutions in sight. This was the beginning of breakthrough formulations of botanically hydrating brand MASAMI with powerful Mekabu powder. MASAMI is James' expression of his passion to help women around the world to become confident with who they are, and to highlight their uniqueness by having healthy and invincibly beautiful hair.
