State & Liberty is a performance menswear brand redefining the modern athletic fit. Designed for men who need more room through the shoulders, chest, arms, seat and thighs without sacrificing a tailored silhouette, the brand combines its signature True Athletic Fit with high-performance stretch fabrics. From dress shirts and suits to pants, polos, outerwear and more, State & Liberty delivers polished, professional menswear with the comfort and mobility of athletic apparel. Its performance fabrics are engineered to be stretchy, lightweight, moisture-wicking, wrinkle-resistant and low maintenance.
Founding Story
State & Liberty was founded in 2015 after its founders experienced firsthand how difficult it was to find off-the-rack dress clothes that properly fit an athletic build. Slim-fit shirts were too restrictive through the upper body, while traditional fits left too much fabric around the waist, forcing them to rely on expensive custom shirts and tailoring.
They set out to solve the problem themselves, spending years researching hundreds of athletic body types to develop a dress shirt with more room through the chest, shoulders and arms and a sharply tailored waist. That combination became State & Liberty’s signature True Athletic Fit. The brand paired that fit with stretch performance fabrics to create dress clothes that look polished and professional while offering the movement and comfort typically associated with athletic wear.
What began with the dress shirt has since expanded into a full menswear collection spanning suits, blazers, dress pants, casualwear and more.

Lee Moffie is the co-founder and CEO of State & Liberty, the performance menswear brand built for athletic body types. A 2013 graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned a degree in history, Moffie played defense for the Wolverines’ men’s ice hockey team and later went on to play professional hockey.
The idea for State & Liberty grew out of Moffie’s own frustration with traditional dress shirts, which did not fit his athletic build. In 2015, he co-founded State & Liberty with fellow University of Michigan graduate Steven Fisher in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The company began with dress shirts designed to provide more room through the chest, shoulders and arms while maintaining a tailored waist, pairing that fit with stretch performance fabrics. State & Liberty has since expanded into a full menswear brand with a growing retail presence across the United States and Canada.
